Your files never leave your device. markdownview.net is a client-side tool: all Markdown rendering and file conversion happen locally in your browser. We never upload, receive or transmit the content you paste or open — it is not sent to our servers, because there is no server involved in processing it.
Some of that content is saved, but only on your own machine: the editor keeps your documents in your browser’s local storage so they are still there when you come back. That is storage on your computer, not ours. The section below spells out exactly what is kept and how to remove it.
What we don't collect
- The Markdown content you paste, open or drag in.
- The files you convert or export.
- Account information — there is no signup.
None of the above reaches us. Content you work on stays on your device, including the part that is saved there between visits.
What is stored on your device
So that you do not lose work between visits, the site saves a few things in your browser’s local storage. This never leaves your computer, is not synced between devices or browsers, and is not readable by us:
- Your documents — the Markdown you write or open in the viewer, plus which document was last open.
- Your resume draft — if you use the Markdown resume builder, its content and your chosen theme and paper size.
You can delete all of it at any time. The viewer has a Clear them link beside the editor that erases every saved document, and clearing site data in your browser settings removes everything this site has stored. Private or incognito windows discard it when you close them.
If your browser blocks storage, the tools still work — documents simply are not kept after you leave.
Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics to understand overall traffic — page views, referrers and rough country-level location. This data is anonymous, is never linked to an individual, and never includes the document content you paste, open or convert.
Advertising
This site is free to use, and we may display third-party advertising — including through Google AdSense — to support it. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. For more detail, see Google’s advertising policies. Advertising cookies are never given access to the Markdown content you process on this site — that content stays in your browser.
Cookies
The core tool works without login and sets no cookies of its own to render or convert your files. Any cookies that are set come from the third-party services described above (analytics and advertising). The documents saved on your device use local storage rather than cookies, so they are not sent with requests the way a cookie would be. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; the converters will still work.
Third parties
Static assets (fonts, libraries) may be served via a CDN. Diagram and math rendering libraries run entirely in your browser. Aside from the analytics and advertising services named above, no other third party receives your data.
Children’s privacy
This site is a general-purpose developer utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, if we add or change a third-party service. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
